Feminine Embodiment: The secret sauce to reconnecting with yourself

Have you ever felt lost, stuck, dull inside, disconnected? Perhaps you just don’t feel fully you. You can’t put a finger on what it is, you just kind of feel like something is wrong.

This feeling of disconnect is an epidemic in our society. It is plaguing womxn everywhere… yet we never really seem to talk about it.

Perhaps because it’s so nebulous. There’s nothing tangible to point to or describe.

Perhaps it’s because there’s a layer of shame that comes with it… this inside voice telling you that you ‘should’ have it together like everyone else. Our inner critics can be pretty fierce when they want to be.

I know that feeling of disconnect well. It landed pretty heavily in my mid-20’s and it took me going right to the edge to figure it all out. I tried energy healing, chakra clearing, shamanism, yoga retreats, kinesiology, naturopathy, but it wasn’t until I started to deepen my exploration with the Sacred Feminine that I began to understand what was going on.

And as my understanding and my own inner exploration unfolded I saw how intrinsically linked our level of embodiment was in how connected we were to our feminine, and the more embodied we became the closer we came to our truth, and the more we contacted our truth, the more connect we are with our Self, and the more connected we are with the Self the more connected we are with each other, and the earth.

We come home.

This disconnect, this loss that plagues womxn everywhere is directly correlated with the extent we are disembodied.

It is through inhabiting the body we find the most simple, efficient, and profound way to contact our truth.

It sounds too simple doesn’t it? Well it is, and it isn’t. Because not that many of us realise just how disembodied we are.

How disembodied are you?

I invite you to explore this as you read.

Begin by noticing your body resting against any support beneath you. Notice the tempo and temperature of your breath. The beating of your heart…

And as you listen in ask yourself honestly the following questions.

On any give day

  1. Do you feel flighty, restless, and ungrounded?

  2. Are you busy, on the go, and forward-thinking?

  3. Are you easily affected by other people?

  4. Do you find yourself reactive?

  5. Do you feel exhausted?

  6. Do you feel like you’ve little to give?

  7. Do you hold tension in your muscles? Perhaps in your shoulders, neck, and jaw?

  8. Do you listen to your body’s basic cues, to go to the toilet, to skip the coffee, to stretch a dead leg, or to lengthen your spine, or do you persevere through the emails?

  9. Are you listening to you intuition, or are the signals dulled and confused?

  10. Do you notice more aches, pains and tension, rather than pleasure in your body?

  11. Do you feel flat?

  12. Lost?

If you answered yes to any of these, then read on.

Stuck in our heads

Busy doing, on the move, worrying, over-analysing, planning the next day, week, year lest we be left behind… so busy, we’ve left OURSELVES behind.

Society basically demands that we live life in the fast line. Our culture prides forward momentum, and forward momentum means goals, action, strategy and a lot of doing. It’s overwhelming already, then we add in technology and the stimulation that’s everywhere and we can’t cut a break. So we numb it all out, we numb the overwhelm, we numb the emotional pain we carry.

And we become dis-embodied.

When you consider the heart and the womb as the wise, spiritual and creative centres of the feminine, and the doing-doing-doing mind as the natural expression of the masculine you see that in internalising the hypermasculine culture we disconnect with our bodies and live in our heads.

Physically this is reflected in our energy is pushed up and out through our upper torso, neck and head. Our shoulders, neck and jaw are tight as our energy is directed up and out. While our lower bodies, the seat of our feminine, that is alive in the sway of our hips, swirling in our pelvic bowl, and pulsing through our thighs is largely without sensation, there’s constriction in our vaginal walls, our anus, constriction and numbness in our womb and pelvis.

Most live all day every day like this – up in our heads and separate from our bodies.  All in the masculine, rarely in the feminine. Disconnected from our creativity, our wisdom, our very aliveness.

Slowly burning out, drying up, and losing touch with who we really are.

There’s nothing wrong with YOU. But there’s something awfully awry with our society and our culture.

The alternative?

The embodied womxn.

The Embodied Womxn

An embodied womxn is clear on her yes and no’s, grounded, calm, self-assured, and super-tapped into her creative and pleasure centres.

She’s moving energy down into her hips. She breathes from her belly, round and full.

She’s feeling and she’s flowing with life.

An embodied womxn is a confident, radiant, and in her power.

A power that is sourced from a well of abundance. Not from lack. A well that echoes with collaboration over competition. Nurturing over domination. Is cyclical not linear.

The embodied womxn is not stuck nose to the grindstone, she is not the womxn giving to everyone except herself, caught in the logic and the ‘shoulds’.  She sets down the give year plan, she burns the goals and instead she heeds the call within, she serves herself and lets wild freedom reign.

She lives inside you.

Although cliched the phrase remains accurate, your bodies is your temple.

Your body holds many a secret, all of the answers, and is worthy of our devotion. Within this temple of pulsating sensation, you find the core essence of who you are.

There is a part of you who knows this.

The part of you that loses herself in dance or orgasm, who surrenders to the water in bath, pool or sea, who feels the sun saturate her skin, who’s senses are so keenly heightened near her bleeding phase , who finds her raw power in pregnancy and birth.

The embodied feminine is not something that you are or are not. It’s an essence that lives within you and a skill that you tend to. It’s yours.

Once you feel her, you don’t go back.
